JANUARY 2012

HAPPY NEW YEAR

So here we are at the start of a very exciting new year.  I trust you all had a good Christmas and didn’t eat more than can be shifted with a January diet!  We finished 2011 with a very festive concert at Sidcup featuring singing from Anton and Eleanor with Jingle Bells backing vocals provided by the band (in fine voice I might add)!  In this month’s newsletter I’ll be giving a round-up of the highlights of the next twelve months.  We have some excellent guests lined up through the year as well as new venues and fixtures.  We hope to see you all in the not too distant future.

All the best,

Joe.

SIDCUP GUESTS SO FAR

I am very pleased to announce some first class guests over the coming months at the club.  So far we have confirmed Jacqui Hicks who you may know from the Back to Basie band, Colin Anthony from the Glenn Miller UK Orchestra and the fantastic Georgina Jackson who got to number one in the jazz singles chart last year and features regularly with the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra.  We’ll be at the United Services Club at 8pm on the last Sunday of every month starting in February (with a break in August).  February’s guest is clarinetist and sax player Pete Long who is possibly the most entertaining musician I have ever seen.  He is the director of the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra and also runs his own “Goodmen” orchestra in tribute to Benny Goodman plus the Gillespiana Big Band.  Tickets can be reserved in advance through Ann Phillips on 01322 521 515.

2012 CONCERTS

This year sees our concert diary expanded somewhat.  Our now regular concert at Trinity School, Croydon will be in March and this year features songstress Kate Mullins from the Puppini Sisters.  We will be returning to the Winter Garden, Eastbourne with David Jacobs and Gary Williams in August with an all new programme in addition to a new date next door at the Congress Theatre in November with a special Remembrance Day concert.  We are very pleased to be involved in a new show “American Patrol” which will have its first preview at the Regis Centre in Bognor in March.  This narrated concert will showcase the music of Glenn Miller’s AAF band with vocal performances of Modernaires’ hits.  Although not strictly a concert, if you like to dance to big band music and you’re in the East Anglia area, then try to catch us at the Ipswich Mayor’s Ball at the Corn Exchange also in March.

BREAKS TO BOOK UP FOR

We have four of our own breaks this year where the band will be performing every night for dancing plus concerts, guest cabaret artists, morning piano sessions and lunchtime jazz.  You should find flyers for three of them enclosed with this letter including our new booking at the five star resort Potters where food, accommodation and facilities are all excellent.  The fourth is at Warner’s Sinah Warren on Hayling Island (May 14th- 18th) and at the time of writing there were only six rooms left so do book up if you plan on coming.  As well as these breaks we will also be appearing for one night at Richardson’s Seacroft Holiday Village (this replaces the old Pontins break), Warner’s Bembridge Coast Hotel and again Potters for their big band festival.
